New Gameplay Features In Guild Wars - Eye Of The North

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

One of the most notable features in Eye of the North, the expansion to the successful series of Guild Wars titles from ArenaNet, is the addition of dungeons. Special multi-level instances, dungeons can be played through repeatedly, and offer some unique items, bosses, and even some surprising traps.

The Eye of the North maps have been modified slightly from the standard Guild Wars maps. The new dungeons will show up a blurred area, which only becomes clear as you explore your way through the dungeon. Special locations like stairs and resurrection shrines are highlighted on the dungeon map.

As an added aide, special dungeon area maps can sometimes be found in dungeons - usually near the entrance to a level. These will instantly reveal the entire dungeon area, as well as highlighting special items like bosses, keys, and some special unique areas to that dungeon.

By talking to some of the faction NPCs you can gain the Dungeon Masters Guide. Each time you complete a dungeon, a page recording your achievement is created in your guide. Once you have completed all the dungeons in Eye of the North you can return your completed guide, in exchange for some significant faction bonuses and gold.

Eye of the North also introduces some three new mini games. By competing in these you can gain faction Reputation Points, which will help your progression along the new faction related Title Tracks.

Polymock is a game invented by the new race, the Asura, and is similar to Pokemon. Completing dungeons and quests can gain you unique Polymock pieces, which you can then pit against opponents in the Polymock Tournament.

Dwarven boxing is arranged by the utterly mad Kilroy Stonekin. Special items like knuckledusters, as well as boxing specific skills, are handed out, as you beat your way through opponents. Kilroy eggs you on against increasingly tough opponents, until finally you and your party must punch your way through a one level dungeon. Beating up the Stone Summit Dwarves with Kilroy is easily one of the best features of the game - for Prince Rurik!

Finally there is the Norn Fighting Tournament, where you progress through one on one combat in the Norn Fighting Arena. Defeat the lesser opponents to come up against the impressive Magni the Bison, a tough Norn opponent who organises the Tournament. This is a great way to unlock some of the unique Heroes which are available in Guild Wars: Eye of the North.

Subwoofer Box Types - Sealed, Ported, Vented And Bandpass

Monday, April 28th, 2008

So you just bought your dream subwoofer. Congratulations! Now you’re wondering on exactly where to put that monster woofer you bought. You may be wondering about the different options, whether you want a sealed, ported, or a bandpass subwoofer enclosure. You may have done a little bit of your own research but have come to a confusing conclusion with so many different technical terms. Don’t worry; I’ll summarize the effects and the effectiveness of each one for you without all the technical big words.

Sealed Enclosure

These are generally the smallest of the three. If you have a small or a sports car, I recommend this enclosure for your car. There are pros and cons of course. As mentioned, it is advantageously smaller, allowing you to preserve your precious trunk space. They also allow the subwoofers to produce a highly accurate bass, but with the least amount of “boom” out of the three types of enclosures. This is primarily because the box is airtight, leaving no room for air to escape with the sound waves from the interior of the box. Unfortunately, this restriction does require a much more powerful amplifier and subwoofer combination. Unless you have a high-end set that could handle higher wattage, I do not recommend on getting a sealed enclosure setup.

Ported/Vented Enclosure

Because the ported enclosure requires additional room for the vent, it is typically larger than the sealed boxes. If you’re not too concerned about space, this type is a popular solution for most people. The design is based on the vent with which air is allowed to move much more freely, channeling the sound from the interior and the rear of the enclosure to the outside. This gives it a much more boomy effect with less accurate bass response. With vented enclosures, you do not need as much power coming out of your system since the lack of an airtight box allows your subwoofer to move much more freely and the vents allowing you to hear every bit of sound produced by your subwoofer.

Bandpass Enclosure

Bandpass subwoofer boxes are the largest of the three. This is because the design is based on a number of ports and two main chambers-one for your subwoofer and another for air space within the enclosure to resonate. You could probably imagine the sound produced by this behemoth. It produces the least accurate bass but with the greatest level of “boom”. With this enclosure, you can out-boom anyone on the streets of Los Angeles. But remember that bandpass enclosures require a lot of space, so be prepared to sacrifice a lot of trunk space for your setup. Also be mindful that some subwoofers do not work well in bandpass enclosures, so check your product manual before installing them. Ultimately, bandpass boxes are extremely efficient enclosures and demand much less power than the sealed enclosure. Be sure to have a tight install on a bandpass enclosure since any loose parts will easily rattle and could easily be heard on a bandpass setup.

Other Details on Subwoofer Boxes

There are also a few other things to keep in mind when you are deciding between different subwoofer boxes. Most subwoofer enclosures now are constructed using MDF, or Medium Density Fiberboard, these are excellent for enclosures so be sure you’re buying MDF construction boxes and not cheap plastic or plywood. Fiberboard (even if it says medium density) is much denser than any other material so it does not rattle and could withstand very high temperatures. Particle boards are much lighter material and do not bond as tightly as fiberboard and would therefore not be suitable for harsh environments.

Cosmetically, there are usually two options for you to get-a carpet exterior or a vinyl/paint finish. Carpet will protect the exterior from getting scratched and usually matches the trunk color pretty well (gray, black, and tan). Paint or vinyl finish tend to show exterior blemishes much easier than carpeting, but cleaning them is also much easier-especially valuable if you are installing a non-trunk subwoofer enclosure install.

How many subwoofers in a box? This depends on obviously how much money and space you have. Don’t buy two when you can buy one that could produce the power of two. This will potentially save you money and space. If you can help it, do not settle for a set of two cheap ones when you can buy one good one. Yes, two will help add more power and sound, but it sacrifices sound quality for volume and boom.

I hope this short summary have helped you in your decision making process. At the end of the day, it is truly up to you to research your subwoofer and find the best solution for your system. Happy hunting!

Dvd Ripping Has Never Been Easy

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

There have been many instances or occasions when I have rented several DVDs during my holidays and was not able to watch them all. I almost wasted my money for getting these DVDs on rent until I was suggested to look at this cool software Imtoo DVD Ripper by one of my friends who suggested I should rip all my DVDs to another format which can be stored on my laptop for a later watch.

I was thrilled with the way he described this software can do as it was great to hear about all of its features. I immediately downloaded the software and installed it in very easy steps on my laptop running windows XP. All the files were installed correctly without any errors and once I opened the application interface it appeared as if I had a DVDs case sitting right inside my laptop’s monitor.

It was an amazing experience looking at the stylish looks of the application. I read through the readme.txt file which was very informative about the things this software can do. It can convert my DVD VOB formats to a VCD, SVCD, DivX, WMV, ASF, MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, Xvid etc. I believed my friends verbatim and considered giving a shot at my favorite DVD movie to be converted into an AVI format.

It took me less than a minute to click on the source (that was my DVD disk) and the destination (a folder on my local computer) and hit the start button. It took a lot less time than other ripping software existing today as I was tired of experimenting with many conversion tools with dissatisfaction rate growing every time. But as a matter of fact, I loved this utility as it took 45 minutes to rip my DVD into a 615MB AVI format with DVD quality picture and sound.

I was amazed how less importance this software has got today. To me this is the best software I have ever found for ripping my DVDs into other convertible formats.

While I was experimenting with this software I learned abut many other features which include:

· An easy to use application interface which we have already learned above. · A tool for any age group as long as the interest lies in ripping the DVD into another storage format. Give it a shot and you will find a satisfactory experience every time you use it. · The software automatically performs CPU checks to make sure it gives priority to your DVD ripping than any other application without any operating system hang-ups or crashes. · A preview mode which could act as a status bar for the user to know the level of DVD ripping software has reached. You can watch the movie at the same time it is being ripped on to your local hard drive. · Another cool feature is the chapter collection process which allows the user to pick and rip the chapter they like along with the subtitles, movie menus, DTS audio, languages etc. You can also pick and choose only an audio track to be ripped as well. · An excellent batch conversion process allows users to use good multi threading CPU feature to rip more than one file at a time.

Overall a great piece of software which allows the DVDs to be ripped into various different formats with good quality audio and video. A must download program! Try it for FREE

How To Choose The Components For Your Own Custom Car Audio System

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

You probably like listening to music in your car and you wish that you could always have music in your car. You can now if you go buy the proper stereo equipment. All you need is a head unit which is just another word for CD player. You just need to look at all your options and see what you have to choose from. You can find CD players online, you can find them in stores in the mall, and you can find them at electronic stores. Anywhere that sells electronics like stereo equipment and stuff like that will have your car stereo that you want. All you have to do is go out and look for what you want and you will find what is good for you.

When you are buying car audio equipment you can choose from all kinds of brands and models. You can go out and get a JVC head unit, and go buy Kenwood subwoofers. There are all kinds of options for your car. Along with your new CD player and subwoofers you will need new door speakers and amps. You will want to get good door speakers so you can actually hear the music not the blown speakers that you bought with the car. The other thing that you will need is amps. You will need a highs and mid amp for the CD player and the door speakers. Thus you will need a second amp for your subwoofers around 500 to 1000watts are ideal. So after you have your whole system you are ready to pay for it and then have it installed if you do not know how to install it yourself. After you have installed one system it is like putting icing on the cake for all the rest.

Making your car system sound good can take a while, you might want all the best parts such as JL audio or JBL. So if you cannot afford all your parts at once just by the piece you need one at a time until you have your whole system complete and the way you wanted it. A perfect custom car audio system will take time and you might not have all the money at once that is why it is good that you save money to be able to finish the system. You will want quality subs and amps. You will not want to buy some stuff from Wal-Mart to put in your car and expect it to be custom. You will want quality and quality doesn’t come from Wally world. You can get a JVC head unit with JL audio subs and amps along with door speakers and that would be the best system you will ever hear because JL audio is perhaps one of the best audio equipment suppliers around the United States. Everyone has their equipment because it is quality. So go out and get your system before they up the prices, you can still go online to buy your products.

Auto Loans and Car Finance Options

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

The majority of people who decide to buy a car will finance that purchase through an auto loan. After you select the car that’s best for you, decided on options and colors and negotiated the price it will be time to finance your purchase. A little forethought and planning will make this transaction much easier.

Long-term and short-term auto loans each have advantages and drawbacks. Lenders will usually restrict long-term loans to new cars. These loans typically have lower monthly payments, as they’re spread over a period of three, four or five years however, you’ll pay more interest charges on these longer loans. A car purchased for fifteen thousand dollars and financed with a four year loan will ultimately cost you about $18,000!

The longer the term of your loan, the high the interest rate. You must also take into consideration the devaluation of the car over the life of the loan. If the car is damaged or destroyed before the loan is paid off it can be worth less than the value of the loan.

Short-term loans are extended for used cars and last from two to three years. They usually have lower interest rates than long-term loans, so you’re actually saving money by taking out a short-term loan. Your monthly payments will be higher than with a long-term loan but the interest savings are substantial and you’ll pay less overall.

Another type of loan is a lease. You may choose to lease a car for many reasons but people usually lease in order to have a new car every few years and avoid the devaluation that comes with owning a car. Lease payments are often lower than the loan payments on a car you purchase but there are costs to leasing you will want to be aware of.

If you decide to lease a car you will need a down payment, just as when you buy one. The leasing industry calls this a “capitalized cost reduction”, as it reduces the amount of the lease. A security deposit will also be required, also referred to as a “reconditioning reserve”. Your deposit is returned to you at the end of the lease arrangement unless your violate the terms or damage the vehicle. You must also pay the first monthly payment of the lease before you take possession of the car.

Closed-end leasing is an agreement that allows you to simply turn over the car to the leasing company as the end of the agreement and walk away with no other commitments. Unless you’ve damaged the car, violated the lease agreement or have caused unusual or excessive wear and tear to it, the end of the lease is the end of your commitment.

Open-end leasing, on the other hand, doesn’t afford the same protection as closed-end leasing. At the end of your lease agreement, the leasing company (or “lessor”) calculates the car’s fair market value and residual value. You will have to make up the difference in the form of an extra payment and it could be quite costly.

One big disadvantage of leasing a car is the mileage limitations, imposed to control the devaluation of the vehicle. If your business or personal needs require you to do quite a bit of travel, leasing may not be your best option.

Lessors are required by the Consumer Leasing Act to explain all charges and terms of the lease to you. Be very sure you understand the terms and conditions if you decide to lease a car.

Whether you decide to buy or lease a car, read every document carefully before signing.
