UK to press ahead with EU Treaty

June 15th, 2008 by enahsbtblog7858

David Miliband says the UK will continue to ratify the EU Treaty despite an Irish ‘no’ vote in a referendum.

Millions of people around the world love to play video games. The term “Gamer” has become part of our vocabulary as more and more young and older segments of the population have spent their money to play games on several different platforms.

Now it seems that many of these “gamers” are earning significant amounts of money testing these games for the various companies who are more then happy to pay for this service.

Word is spreading about this opportunity thanks to online blogs where people are sharing their experiences with their fellow gamers. Many people are surprised that they can actually make money playing video games. The amount of money that can be made varies depending on how many gaming systems the user owns and the amount of time they are willing work.

How does it work? Basically the companies send the game and assignment sheet via mail. The gamer simply plays the game and then fills out the assignment sheet and then mails it back in. The assignment sheet is basically a mini survey about the game. The tester answers questions like, “What did you think of the game menu? Was it easy to navigate? What was the best part of the multi-player function? Was there any noticeable game bugs?”

It’s that easy and there is one large benefit. Once the tester is done reviewing the game they usually get to keep the game. Allowing the testers to keep the game is no small thing as most new video games for consoles like Xbox 360 are priced at $59.99.

Peter Teevens is a freelance journalist who makes his home in Las Vegas, NV. The website http://www.gametesterpayday.com is one of the places gamers can go to learn how to get paid to play video games. They charge a one-time fee and even offers a money back guarantee.

Protest marks Trident anniversary

June 14th, 2008 by enahsbtblog7858

Protesters form a ‘peace chain’ around the Faslane submarine base to mark an anniversary.

They say that there are over 10 million people playing World of Warcraft world wide, and that number just keeps on growing. If you are one of those millions you know how addictive that game can be. You find yourself wanting to log in just so you can check your mailbox, check up on your auctions, or check out the current prices at the AH (Auction House.)

The ability to buy and sell at the AH adds a realistic and enjoyable dimension to the game and allows players to make money and buy some great arms, armor, etc. In order to buy this cool stuff you need to have some money: silver and gold.

One of the best ways for the beginner to make gold in WoW is to take up a profession such as Skinning, Mining, or Herbalism. You can train for these professions at one of the main cities, then skin, mine, or collect herbs constantly while you complete the quests you need for leveling up your character.

If you are more concerned with earning money than leveling rapidly take a day or two and just work on your gathering professions. The secondary professions of fishing, cooking, and first aid don’t really do much for income, especially at the lower levels. (Though there are some secrets at higher levels that will make you a lot of money, but I can’t give those away in this article.)

Now, all of this collecting won’t do you any good unless you can sell what you have collected at the AH. That means a long and time-consuming run or flight back to one of the cities just so you can sell your goods…or does it?

Yes, there is a better way: you need a mule. Make another character (the mule) that you don’t bother to level up, and park that character at the mailbox closest to the AH. Select a name that is easy to remember and type, because you will be sending mail (items and money) to this character from all of your other characters on the same server and you don’t want to make an error with that!

If you are Alliance you can make a Dwarf or Gnome that you run immediately to Ironforge, a Human you send to Stormwind, a Nightelf that you send to Darnassus, or a Draenei for The Exodar. If you are Horde you can make a Bloodelf that you send to Silvermoon, an Orc or Troll you send to Orgrimmar, a Tauren for Thunder Bluff, or an Undead for Undercity.

Your mule only needs to be capable enough to stay alive on the run to the closest city, which in most cases means that a level 1 character is adequate for the task. When your mule arrives in the city you should station it by a mailbox right next to the AH.

Now, whenever your gathering character’s inventory is full of good loot to sell at the AH you only need to travel as far as the closest mailbox. Send your items and enough money to place the auctions to your waiting mule. Logout as the gathering character, login as the mule, and place your auctions, collect on sold items, purchase equipment, etc. Then return items, money, or whatever to your gathering character(s) in the field.

In addition to all the great free wow guides to skinning, mining, and herbalism, and all other aspects of WoW gaming, at http://www.gotwarcraft.com the author suggests you check out the MMO Cookbook for delicious real-world WoW cooking.

Fresh hurdle for stem cell hunt

June 10th, 2008 by enahsbtblog7858

It may be tougher than first thought to pick effective stem cell treatments, a Nobel Prize-winning geneticist says.

Annuity buybacks usually occur when a specialty finance company offers a lump sum cash payment in return for previously purchased annuity payments. Major annuity providers have recently begun to offer buybacks as a way to compete for customers wanting to cash out annuities. Annuity providers are not only buying back personal annuities, but also structured settlement payments that they previously sold to customers. The problem for some annuity companies is that specialty financing companies are sometimes able to offer customers more money at a given time, thus capturing most of the buyback market. What is on the horizon for such competitions? Let’s take a look.

Where Competition Comes From?

Competition for annuity buybacks falls under three main categories. The first is specialty finance companies whose primary business model is buying annuity payments as investments. These companies can have multiple funding sources, and can often offer very good pricing. The second is emergence of annuity providers themselves offering a similar service to specialty finance companies, buying back their own policies.

The third being independent brokers who work as the middle man with various funding sources. Future competition is on the horizon in the form of commercial banks, credit unions, saving and loans institutions, and other lending companies who see the value of offering annuity buyback services to their customers. Because the latter mentioned institutions are generally larger they may be able to offer more capital than specialty finance companies, it is quite conceivable that competition may become harder for the smaller companies to keep up with.

How Specialty Finance Companies are Competing With the Big Boys

In order to compete with larger commercial companies, many specialty finance companies are relying on their personalized customer service abilities as a way to keep and gain customers. They are marketing their skills in quality of service provided, as well as the turnaround time it takes during the funding process. It all comes down to convenience for the customer. Specialty companies also rely on the fact that they can have more power with pricing and funding options, which can be tailored to a particular customers needs and wants.

Knowing What Retirees Want

Retirees are probably the biggest group of individuals who take advantage of buying annuity payments when they cash in on their retirement plan funds. Many seniors would much rather set up an annuity installment plan that offers a safe, longterm, tax advantageous investment strategy rather than receive a lump sum of their earnings. To this end, retirees want to feel comfortable and at ease with the company that they choose to delegate these payments and usually pick an A Rated Annuity Provider. Annuities are generally considered a very safe investment product. However, financial circumstances change and annuity owners sometimes wish that they had access to the funds they have contributed to the annuity.

Annuity BuyBack Auctions

Giving annuity owners the ability to access a variety of annuity buyers competing for their business is a service whose time is eminent. This type of service not only allow retirees to gain the best prices for the sale of their annuity payments, but also clients who own annuities in the form of a structured settlement. This forces buyback companies to fine tune their services to keep the annuity buyer game in a fair playing field. In addition, the competitiveness of an auction platform assures that the absolute lowest discount rates are applied to the buyback price of annuity payments, and the client receives the most amount of cash back possible.

Annuities are a valuable part of today’s financial world. They provide a safe longterm investment strategy with good returns. Financial circumstances do change, and if annuity owners are in need of funds they have contributed to their annuity, then only one option should exist. Selling payments using an advanced auction platform that brings top annuity buyers together and gets the maximum amount of cash back for the sale of annuity payments.

Clayton Frantz writes for Quote Me A Price.com. QMAP, simply put offers a superior way to sell annuity payments. If your looking for annuity buyers, you can register for free at and list your annuity payments for no obligation cash bids from top

Are you a first time credit card applicant and not sure if you qualify? Well there is good news; financial institutions have made it pretty simple to obtain credit these days, with out many restrictions. In order to get a credit card you must be at least 18 years old and have a steady income. Some card issuers will require your income to meet a minimum level but for the most part it will affect how much borrowing power you are granted. Another important factor on qualifying for a credit card is your credit history.

Unfortunately not everyone has a credit history, especially if you just turned 18 and are looking to move out on your own. Sometimes you can still get a credit card without one but you may find that your borrowing power is limited. Building a good credit history is simple and usually only takes a few months to establish one.

One of the best ways to establish a credit history is to finance a car, over time as you make your payments you will build a positive credit history. Make your payments on time and try not to pay your car loan off for 6 to 8 months. If getting a car loan is not an option look into getting a secure credit card. Secure credit cards are actually pretty good and will do the trick but you need to have enough money to open a savings account with the lending institution. The amount you are able to borrow will be tied to the amount you deposit and may be from 50 to 100 percent of the deposit amount.

Building a good credit history is easy, so is building a bad credit history. While a good credit history will open doors for you down the road a bad credit history will do just the opposite. Make sure that you don’t borrow more than you are capable of paying back and make your monthly payments on time.

Ozzy Osbourne accepts libel damages over claims he had a health scare which jeopardised the Brit Awards.

When it comes to the endless benefits associated with audio books, this innovative system of entertainment is responsible for a wide-range of accomplishments. The availability of audio books online allow college students to gain a better understanding of a foreign language or other course material. They also equip business professionals with enhanced confidence pertaining to their field. The many different uses for audio books are rather impressive, as a never-ending collection of titles await your curiosity. Before pursuing a particular online site for your source of audio books, consider the following factors:

Extensive Selection of Titles

Number one bestsellers, classic children’s tales, informative how-to’s, and helpful self-improvement titles are just some of the subjects and topics covered in the world of audio books. Thousands upon thousands of possibilities are offered on downloadable and mail order audio book sites, which span an endless selection of titles. Today, millions of people enjoy access to radio dramas, thrillers, comedies, romance, tragedies, and biographies.

Major publishers, such as Harper-Collins, Time Warner, and Simon & Schuster contribute to some of the best-selling audio books on the market. Some audio books even showcase original audio theater presentations hailing from exotic and international locations in the world. There is also no need to look elsewhere for audio books, as the majority of sites dedicated to purchasing and downloading of these materials offer new titles on a daily or weekly basis.

Type of Services

When looking for audio books online, you will encounter a variety of services to consider. Some sites require a subscription in order to gain access to a collection of titles. After joining a membership, an individual then pays a monthly or yearly fee to either download or have audio books sent to their home. Subscriptions to an audio book site is not always required, as some people can simply purchase the titles they want whenever they wish.

Possible Software Installation

Depending on the audio book site you settle on, you may or may not have to download extra software in order to gain access to your selected titles. While some sites require the installation of software, other sites are already compatible with software found on the majority of current computer models.

Audio File Downloads

After you’ve downloaded a selected audio book title to your computer, you will encounter a great deal of flexibility. With this kind of system, you can transfer your audio files to a wide range of media options to maximize portability. Nowadays, audio books are accompanying people on long train rides and road trips; while relaxing in the bedroom; traveling on an airplane; or even washing the dishes.

Some people copy downloadable files to a digital music player. To enjoy an audio book on your iPod, it is required to first burn the file to a CD and then transfer it using iTunes. When burning an audio book to a CD, it is ready for listening on a typical hi-fi or car audio entertainment system. While at work, some individuals enjoy an audio book as they type away on their PC or laptop. A compatible cell phone also accommodates the pleasure of listening to your favorite audio book titles.

DJ died after drugs and bondage

June 4th, 2008 by enahsbtblog7858

Former Radio 1 Breakfast DJ Kevin Greening died after taking part in a gay bondage session, an inquest hears.

There are so many car stereo head units on the market. How do you know what to choose? Let’s take a look at some of the things you should look for when buying a head unit.

1. How user friendly is the head unit?

Your head unit must be user friendly. This is the part of your car stereo you will interact with the most so you must feel comfortable using it. Before buying one be sure to play around with it and see how easy and quick it is to change tracks on a CD, switch radio stations, and so on. Are the buttons too small? You need to be able to enjoy using your head unit.

2. How is the unit’s power measured?

Pay close attention to power. Look out for models where the manufacturers exaggerate the unit’s power. This malpractice is common among most manufacturers. Ensure that power is measures in RMS. Be very wary of terms like “music power” and “peak power”. These terms mean nothing when it comes to measuring power.

3. Choosing between a cassette player and a CD player.

It’s all about your personal preference. Do you use more cassettes than CDs? In that case you should probably go with a cassette player. Many of them give you the option of hooking up a CD changer. Your CD changer can be operated from your head unit.

The only problem with some CD changers is the fact that you may have to get to your trunk or under your seat to change CDs. With in-dash CD players everything is in reach and can be operated easily.

More and more people are using CDs these days. CDs have several advantages including better sound quality. Many of them can be hooked up to a CD changer as well.

4. Does the head unit include pre-amp outputs?

If you’re serious about sound you wouldn’t buy a head unit that doesn’t come with pre-amp outputs. With these outputs, you can run an amplifier directly without any need for conversion. This output is the cleanest. Higher volt outputs are better as long as your amplifier or crossover can handle the voltage. For less noise choose 4 volts over 1-2 volts.

5. Is there a theft prevention scheme?

If theft protection is important to you buy a head unit that includes a theft prevention scheme. You can choose between a partially detachable and fully detachable face. Detaching the face of your head unit renders it useless. So this is obviously a great deterrent for thieves.

Kenwood has some models where the face flips around so the thief can’t see the head unit.

Some head units like Eclipse’s ESN system, require a reference CD when you first apply power to them. If it is stolen it is useless. You must have the reference CD for it to work. The only problem with this is that if the thief has no clue about this feature, your head unit would be stolen anyway. Your only hope would be if he foolishly takes it to Eclipse for repair. Eclipse would be able to verify that it was stolen.

Ordering your car stereo head unit online is quick and easy. Before buying your head unit be sure to check out some online reviews. Find out what customers like yourself think of the unit you want to buy. You can order one online today.

Whalemeat traders ‘defying ban’

Icelandic and Norwegian firms export whalemeat to Japan, which environmentalists say undermines global treaties.

As the Internet is beginning to cater to a high volume of sites from almost any industry, the need for optimizing your rank to search engines is getting high importance that sometimes could make us very problematic.

I know the feeling of trying out all web marketing schemes, doing almost every tips and how-tos you read from experts, but ending up on the same rank and traffic stat. What could even get worse is that at times, the harder you pull your site’s ranking on search engines, the more its placing would turn out to be undesirable rather than better.

This is the real challenge for everyone, whose business lies online. I seem to agree with gives updates on the ins and outs of public relations and marketing within the Internet. It helps various companies of all sizes to become competitive entrepreneurs, and to focus on building good publicity, promotion and higher sales. Minister in ‘British day blunder’

June 3rd, 2008 by enahsbtblog7858

The SNP accuses Liam Byrne of a “glaring gaffe” over his suggestion for a date for an annual British day.

One thing that can confuse search engine spiders are sloppy headers on your website. It is just so easy to miss this one little thing especially if you are using a site builder on a host like freeservers.com, bravenet.com or homestead.com. What happens is that while you are building the website you may be asked to save the website as something when you go to work on a new content page. However you may forget the non-visible header area of a page when saving it causing search engines to ignore the page because they see it as non-functioning or duplicate content. Don’t think this problem is limited just to site builders. It is also very easy to forget about your headers for web pages while saving your site in do-it-yourself site software such as Dreamweaver.

The ultimate result of this type of sloppiness is a site that has a title that is the same on every page. The meta tags on every page are also identical. Only the visible content is different. To avoid this stick to a regime of developing your new content on the page and making a note to yourself to always develop the title for the new content page before moving onto the next one. This way you don’t forget to practice some SEO techniques on your header area as well.

Remember that failure to do this can be a disaster. Most search engines will penalize pages that they see as identical by not including them in their search engine indexes at all. Another consequence of having sloppy titles is some strange looking indexing of your URL when it does finally get listed that does not make use of any of the keywords that have been laid out so lovingly and painstakingly on your web site pages.

The Passionate Steward: Recovering Christian Stewardship from Secular Fundraising by Michael O’Hurley-Pitts
St. Brigid Press, 0973137800, $19.99

Books have been published explaining why Catholics can’t sing, why Catholics pray the Rosary, and why Catholics don’t (and/or shouldn’t) have women in the priesthood. From St. Brigid Press and author Michael O’Hurley-Pitts comes a book on why some Catholics (and, to be sure, Christians of other denominations) don’t give. The Passionate Steward: Recovering Christian Stewardship from Secular Fundraising is a book targeted at Christian parishes, in particular clergy and laypersons responsible for parish stewardship, but is not necessarily a “how-to” on the fundamentals of fundraising. Rather, Steward reads more along the lines of a “why-not” or “how-about” book in that problems of parish stewardship are not addressed with definite solutions in mind, but are exposed to allow the reader to come to the proper conclusions about what is best for his/her church.

O’Hurley-Pitts defines the various kinds of stewardship, pointing out foremost that giving is “not transactional,” but “vocational.” The problem with implementing secular fundraising techniques to parishes, he argues, is that the act of giving is thus in danger of being cheapened. Giving to one’s church, be it time or money, should not have to require tempting parishioners with gifts and incentives, the author argues. People should want to give without having to be bombarded by a “what’s in it for me” mentality, particularly when the incentives are hardly spiritual.

O’Hurley-Pitts outlines in Steward a history and the basic fundamentals of stewardship from a Christian perspective and suggested methods for campaigns (direct mail, guest speakers), and weighs the pros and cons of each. For the struggling small-town parish or the established metropolis church, The Passionate Steward lays out the nuts and bolts of stewardship in a concise and timely manner.

‘Lump sum expense plan’ for MPs

May 27th, 2008 by enahsbtblog7858

MPs could award themselves an automatic lump sum of £23,000 a year to pay for second homes, it is reported.

When visiting the Mayan Riviera, there are a variety of attractions to please just about anybody. Whether you like to party all night and get up in the afternoon, or spend the day sightseeing and go to bed early, you will find fun here. Here are some examples of things to do, to make your vacation enjoyable and complete.

Aqua Tours Day Cruises

This company offers great day trips to the nearby island of Isla Mujeres, or “Island of Women.” Just sign up for a cruise on one of their multi-million dollar yachts and they will take you to the island, drop you off for lunch and to sightsee at different locations then bring you back, all in one day. During the trip, there is open bar, sometimes contests or shows, too. On the island, go snorkeling, see a sea turtle farm called Tortugranja, or visit Hacienda Mundaca (supposedly the ruins of a pirate’s home,) for example.

XCaret - a large park built into the Mexican jungle

This park is a nature and history lover’s dream. Here, you can see native plants and animals, ride horses on the beach, swim with dolphins, go to the theater and see various historical shows or even go to a huge butterfly garden enclosure. There is an underground cave to swim through, which is wonderful for those sizzling hot daily temperatures. Bring a vat of sunscreen with you, believe me, it’s a good idea. Also, there are many restaurants on the premises, from snacks to full-course meals. It is a beautiful and well-maintained park designed to teach about Mexican history and nature.

Chichen Itza

This is a large archeological site with a very impressive pyramid (El Castillo) in the once prominent city controlled by Mayan and Toltec Indians. Sign up to go on a tour through your hotel or resort, with trusted companies like Apple Tours or others. Don’t just hire any guide who comes up to you because, having lived in Mexico for two years, I was told that freelance “tour guides” just make things up and then pocket your money. Get a good guide, and see everything from the ball court, El Castillo, the Nunnery and other famous buildings on this large site. Charters frequently have a lunch for you at the neighboring hotel, a lovely place with kind staff and entertainment as you eat. If you have a chance to go inside the pyramid, do it. I’ve been in there, and though it’s claustrophobic inside, the stairs lead up to a Jade jaguar sculpture and a reclining figure used for ceremonies (Chac Mool.) This is real and well-preserved ancient history. You can even see hieroglyphics on some of the buildings.

Cozumel

From Cancun or Playa del Carmen, board a ferry over to the island of Cozumel. There, you can go to see Chankanaab Park, if you like scuba diving, snorkeling and nature walks. Or, shop for souvenirs at the many stores downtown. There are minor Mayan ruins on the island, too. Stop and eat at the many atmospheric restaurants, or take a buggy ride.

Playa del Carmen

This former fishing village is now a hotspot for many Europeans and has a different feel to it than Cancun. It is a bit more laid back, but definitely not boring, by all means. Walk Fifth Avenue (Quinta Avenida) and shop or stop for a meal. Spend time on the beautiful, white sand beaches up and down the coast. If you want to snorkel or scuba, there are many dive shops that will gladly take you to prime coral gardens. There is an aviary in the Playacar section of Playa, where you can see a variety of beautiful native birds in their own habitat. The golf club at Playacar is impressive and top-class for anyone who loves to golf.

Cancun

If you’re into night clubs, there are a whole lot of them to choose from in the Hotel Zone (Zona Hotelera.) Try Senor Frogs, Daddy-O, Christine, or Carlos n’ Charlies. These aren’t your average, small potatoes clubs, but world-class ones, with exotic light shows, drinks and fun for everyone who loves to party. Taxis are plentiful, so don’t worry about getting back to the hotel when you’re ready to go back early in the morning. Guaranteed, you won’t be bored in Cancun.

Shoppers will love Cancun’s Hotel Zone, too. Plaza Caracol or Plaza Flamingo are two good places to see, or go to the Mexican market (mercado) and dicker with the locals for native Mexican handicrafts. Exchange your money at the hotel or at Casas de Cambio but not at the market. Someone short-changed me there when I changed my money, hoping I wouldn’t notice, so it’s better to do it somewhere else. Expect to pay less than the marked prices, the vendors expect you to dicker with them.

Enjoy your trip, and pick up maps when there, to see what else is going on that isn’t advertised in the travel brochures. Explore downtown Cancun, too, just outside the Hotel Zone. Be safety conscious, and make sure to tip the wait staff. Mexico is a wonderful country with so much to do and see. If you go once, you’ll be hooked for sure.
